Dealing with infestations

don't know how many of you have ever had to deal with problems like bedbugs, lice, scabies? If we get them now, imagine how bad it will be if the SHTF, and your washer and dryer and soap supply are ended.
I have fought the bedbugs before and won. My step one was strip all bedding and cloth in the area, Step two, hit the bed and carpet and furniture in the room with Insecticide, like ant and roach spray. Step two, was wash all cloth and bedding in hot water and I used dog flea and tick shampoo in the wash also. Step three, dry all bedding and cloth on high heat. Step four, re spray with insecticide every couple days for a week, and also spray into any electrical outlets in the area. Step five, examine the bedding every day looking for blood spots or bug nests, and eggs. Step six, might as well rewash everything again. Be vigilant about looking for infestations in the future.

Lice I have never had to deal with, so perhaps someone else can enlighten me.

Scabies, are Mites that live under your skin, and are transmitted mainly by body to body contact, but also from furniture and clothing and bedding.
Everything I have read says scabies can only be cured by a one time only drug called Lindane, repeat use not allowed due to possible nurological damage. Scabies seems to cause horrible itching, and I hope to never personally experience them. The medical texts say there are no non prescription cures.

All these problems are encouraged by crowded conditions, sleeping together, poor body sanitation, poor laundry.

Any ideas in this area?
thanks

Yours sounds like a small problem compared to the infestation we are experiencing in the southwest. Here we pay for their babies, hospital, school and prisons with no hope of ridding ourselves of this horrible problem.
Good luck with yours!

:D The thread title was a little misleading.

I was expecting ideas on how to get rid of illegal aliens and our present parasitic government.

Oh well..different type of infestation.

Turtle guy, I think most of us are hoping to be FAR away from any crowed situation that will promote infestations. If people end up in camps it will be a huge problem. My guess is the Government will handle it by spraying toxic chemicals with no thought to human dangers. I did see a news report talking about bed bugs being on the up rise recently.

When my Daughters were young and played softball the whole softball team came down with head lice because they shared a batting helmet. My Daughters graciously shared their bugs with me. It was a nightmare because back then we all had long hair!!! They make a product called Nix that is not as toxic as lindane. The Nix works well but you have to comb every single nit out of the hair shaft and wash all linens and every possible article of contamination.

I am a big fan of tea tree oil and there is some evidence it might work on different types of lice.

Here is an interesting article.

Man that solution for bed bugs sound quite severe. Spraying aerosol bug spray all over your bedding and the room? You gotta breath that crap in then!

What I would do is buy one of those small personal tents, the kind that basically just offer you a mosquito netting around your sleeping bag, and sleep in that. Then nothing can get to you!

Pennyroyal Oil, it will kill most human infesting bugs. It can be made at home as Pennyroyal is a common weed. Dont eat it as it is a deadly poison. Lots of old home remedies out there.

I will look into more of the old home remedies. I just figured that with reduced incomes and losing homes, more folks would be forced to share housing with friends and relatives. Crowding does not help reduce infestations.

I looked up the pennyroyal oil, wow it is so powerful, and poisonous. The list had so many bad side effects it looked like a drug listing. I would use it with extreme caution. However, if there is no other cure, I bet it would be worth it.
